FLOURISH! An Exhibit of Intergenerational Art

Join us starting May 14th at Saint Johns on the Lake for an exhibit featuring the intergenerational arts projects from 2014-2015's Creative Trust efforts.  It has been an incredible year!  The exhibit, coordinated by UWM Community Arts student Rebecca Ebsen, includes:

  • The Islands of Milwaukee, a collaborative arts project between Sojourn Theatre, UWM's Anne Basting, and older adults living at home (partnered with Home Delivered Meals, Stowell Associates, and Interfaith Older Adult Programs).
  • Stage Right Theatre - a new theater company run by Sammy Goodrich that creates original musicals with people with memory loss.
  • TimeSlips - creative stories by people with memory loss, facilitated by UWM student volunteers.
  • Moving Images - TimeSlips stories inspired by artwork at the 5 Milwaukee Museum Mile sites and performed at those sites during the MMM open house on May 3rd.
  • Color Flow - a collaboratively created dance by residents at Saint John's on the Lake and UWM Dance students, inspired by paintings by Chai Point resident Doris Gendelman.
  • Arlington Court Photo Project - facilitated by UWM Community Arts students.

Slightly Bigger Women Performance/Dialogue

What happens when Little Women grow up?
A performance/dialogue inspired by intergenerational conversations that ask:

  • How did history change our dreams of who we could become?
  • What are our dreams today?
  • How can we unlock them?

"I have the key to my castle in the air, but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen." Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

written by Tina Binns (with Anne Basting)
directed by Anne Basting and Devlin Grimm

April 22 - 26 (Wed-Sun) at 7:30 pm
Sat 25th and Sun 26th at 2:00 pm

508 Kenilworth Building, UWM   tickets $10, students $5, seniors/faculty $8

The Letters Begin!

Several UWM classes are incorporating a Letter Exchange as a service-learning assignment in their courses.  Inspired by Little Women, the letters consider "Who do I want to become?"  Hand-written and decorated envelopes were delivered to the Creative Trust communities.  Elders will respond with their own stories of what they hoped to become and their continued dreams.  The letter exchanges will inform the creation of Slightly Bigger Women, a performance/dialogue about the changing opportunities/roles for women over the last 100 years.
